Piyush Goyal in London: What It Actually Means for Indian Exporters
Two things happened today — and if you export from India, both matter to you.
First, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal sat down with 35 Export Promotion Councils in New Delhi. The agenda was straightforward — stop talking about trade deals and start using them.
Second — Goyal flies to London today for three days, arriving less than three weeks before India-UK CETA goes live on July 15, 2026.
These aren't routine meetings. The timing — CETA in 20 days, record exports, active FTAs — tells you something is actually moving.

π️ What Happened at the EPC Meeting Today
This wasn't a routine EPC meeting. With four major trade agreements now active or going live this year, the question exporters are asking is simple — how do we actually use them?
Here is what came out of the meeting:
- Goyal called on all the EPCs and industry bodies to step up: get into new markets, improve product quality, and really push for global competitiveness.
- He pointed out a big deal—thanks to our new free trade agreements, India now has preferential access to 38 countries, including both developed and emerging economies. That covers almost 70% of the world’s GDP and two-thirds of global trade. That’s a huge opportunity.
- They dove deep into the Export Promotion Mission, the government’s flagship scheme focused on helping MSMEs break into exports. Goyal told the councils to work harder to get more exporters involved.
- Industry voices in the room were especially happy about the recent end of the extra 25% US tariff on Indian imports, thanks to a US Executive Order from February 6, 2026. They called this a real win for Indian exporters.
